Principal Cloud Engineer - Azure - Inside IR35 - Insurance.

Location: Hybrid- 3x per week in London
Duration: 6 months
Day Rate: £650-£750 per day Inside IR35
Start Date: January 2026 (CV review & interviews commence in January)

We are seeking an experienced Principal Cloud Engineer to lead a major cloud transformation initiative for a leading specialty insurer. This is a pivotal role where you will set the strategic direction for cloud adoption, drive migration from on-premises to Azure, & define the business approach to cloud optimisation.

You will work closely with senior stakeholders & technical teams to ensure the delivery of secure, scalable, & future-ready cloud solutions. The ideal candidate will combine deep Azure expertise with broad cloud knowledge, & bring strong architecture awareness to influence technology decisions.

Key Responsibilities

Define & implement cloud strategy, focusing on Azure.
Lead migration from on-premises to cloud & guide technology selection.
Design high-level & low-level architectures for cloud solutions.
Collaborate with business & technical teams to optimize services & enable growth.
Act as a technical authority on Azure & cloud-native technologies.
Engineer solutions using Infrastructure as Code (Terraform) & scripting languages.
Support & upskill internal teams, ensuring best practices are followed.

Essential Skills

Proven experience in Azure cloud engineering & architecture.
Strong knowledge of Azure services (PaaS, Serverless, IaaS).
Hands-on experience with Kubernetes & containerization.
Expertise in Infrastructure as Code & automation tools.
Ability to communicate complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
Minimum 5+ years in cloud engineering & architecture roles.

Azure certifications (e.g., AZ-305, AZ-400).
Broader architecture certifications (e.g., TOGAF).
