Senior Business Analyst - Underwriting System Upgrade

Contract: 12 months

Rate: £600 - £650 per day (Inside IR35)

Location: City of London (Hybrid - up to 3 days onsite)

A leading organisation within the specialist insurance market is seeking an experienced Senior Business Analyst for a large-scale modernisation programme focused on upgrading a core underwriting system for a specialist business line. This will be the first phase of a modernisation programme, so the successful candidate must be experienced in working with legacy systems, translating complex technical concepts, & collaborating closely with technical teams.

Operating within an Agile delivery environment, the Business Analyst will take full ownership of business requirements & the project backlog, acting as the key interface between business stakeholders & technology teams. This is a delivery-focused role supporting system modernisation, process improvement, & successful adoption across the underwriting function. Specialty Insurance/Lloyd's Market experience is required.

Responsibilities:

  • Act as the primary business representative within the delivery team, working closely with the Project Manager , underwriting stakeholders, & technical SMEs
  • Own, define, & continuously refine the project backlog, ensuring requirements are clear, prioritised, & aligned to business outcomes
  • Capture, document, & manage business requirements as high-quality user stories with clear acceptance criteria & Definitions of Done
  • Facilitate stakeholder workshops, backlog refinement sessions, & progress reviews to drive clarity, alignment, & decision-making
  • Support testing & UAT activities, ensuring underwriting outcomes are fully validated, defects addressed, & feedback captured

Requirements:

  • Proven experience as a Business Analyst delivering modernisation programmes for Underwriting/Claims systems. London Market/Lloyd's Market experience is required.
  • Experience working on large-scale modernisation programmes & upgrading legacy underwriting or claims systems
  • Strong track record owning & driving project backlogs within technology-led change programmes
  • Experience in working & engaging with technical teams to translate complex concepts for business stakeholders
  • Demonstrable experience supporting the technical development of underwriting systems & taking day-to-day ownership of requirements through delivery
