Azure Platform Engineer | Contract | Outside IR35

We are working with a leading London Market insurer looking for an experienced Azure Platform Engineer to deliver a new cloud sandbox platform.

This is a hands on engineering assignment focused on building a secure, automated Azure environment that allows development & technology teams to provision temporary infrastructure for testing, experimentation & proof of concept activities.

The platform architecture & strategy have already been defined. The successful contractor will take ownership of the technical implementation, automation & delivery through to operational handover.

Key Responsibilities

Build & configure Azure infrastructure to support secure, isolated sandbox environments.
Develop reusable Terraform modules & Ansible playbooks to automate infrastructure provisioning.
Implement automated deployment workflows using GitHub Enterprise & GitHub Actions.
Configure Azure networking, identity, access controls & security policies.
Automate environment creation, shutdown, expiry & decommissioning.
Implement Azure cost management, monitoring & governance controls.
Support Microsoft Dev Box, Azure Virtual Desktop & other development environments where appropriate.
Deliver technical documentation, operational runbooks & knowledge transfer.

Required Experience

Strong commercial experience delivering Microsoft Azure infrastructure & platform solutions.
Advanced Terraform skills, including Infrastructure as Code automation.
Experience with GitHub Actions & automated infrastructure deployment.
Strong Azure networking knowledge, including VNets, DNS, routing & firewall controls.
Experience with Azure Policy, RBAC, Entra ID & subscription management.
Proven experience building secure, automated cloud infrastructure.
Ability to take ownership of technical delivery with minimal supervision.

Desirable: Azure Landing Zones, Microsoft Dev Box, Azure Virtual Desktop, Ansible, cloud security tooling & developer self service platforms.

Contract Details

Rate: £420 - £520 per day

IR35: Outside IR35

Duration: 6 months initial

Location: London (Hybrid)

This is a delivery focused assignment suited to a senior Azure Platform Engineer or Cloud DevOps Engineer with strong infrastructure automation experience.
