Putting diversity at the heart of your cyber security team

Diversity in the workplace is a continued topic of discussion across all industries, and it is no secret there is a big disparity in the tech sector which is heavily male dominated.

There is a big spotlight on women in tech and in particular the lack of female talent in cyber security. One major factor limiting the tech talent available is a shortage of women entering the sector and occupying leadership roles.

Women only represent 20% of the global cyber security workforce, which plummets to just 11% in the UK.

So why the lack of females in cyber?

There are several attributing factors however from my perspective it starts right at the grassroots level. ITPro cite that the gap starts with education and the struggle to encourage the uptake of not only cyber but tech in schools.

In 2020 16,919 female students chose computer sciences at GCSE level compared to 61,540 male students.
