A Cornishman at heart, I have now spent half of my life in the city and continue to love the hustle and bustle – however, I’m still very much at home on a beach.
After studying French and Spanish at university and starting a Master’s in 19th Century French Politics, Philosophy and Literature, I made the obvious step into recruitment…and loved it!
I first started in sales recruitment, working with Media and Events organisations and was instantly hooked. As a recruiter, being able to talk with Directors and gain a truly deep understanding of their businesses is a huge interest of mine. The satisfaction when finding an individual a new job, knowing that they’ll be joining a great company and seeing them progress within their role is also something only to be found in our line of work!
Why I joined Pioneer
I chose to join Pioneer as they enable the opportunity to develop a successful career whilst maintaining professionalism and maturity throughout. We have a lot of fun working together and are very motivated by continually outdoing our past selves and seeing the amazing feedback we receive from candidates and clients.
The hiring process
My previous role was a Sales Manager position within an events company. Whilst I was very happy there, the industry obviously, and very unfortunately, took a huge hit from the pandemic. I reflected upon what I was really passionate about and realised that I really missed the candidate element of recruitment so focused on returning to the industry.
A friend referred me to a rec2rec who has worked with Pioneer for years. The first agency he pitched was Pioneer and I was very interested from the outset.
I had a three-stage video interview process with a final meet and greet with the wider team. Mark and I also had regular phone conversations that frequently overran in a very positive way!
I was very fortunate enough to be able to start my time at Pioneer from the office. Mark was very conscious that I work best from the office and ensured that all measures were taken for the environment to be COVID-safe. This meant for a very positive onboarding experience whilst getting to know the new CRM systems and tech.
My journey at Pioneer so far
Starting out in a completely new market, working on roles with completely new skillsets was definitely a steep learning curve at the start. Fortunately, Pioneer maintains excellent relationships with candidates and clients past and present, so I was able to have very insightful, open conversations with individuals within the market. I have loved being able to bring on new clients whilst also supporting our legacy accounts and increase my presence within the Data & Analytics space.
As is standard practice within recruitment, training is on-the-job and ongoing – there is always something new to learn and Mark’s experience is an excellent font of knowledge. Pioneer’s way of doing business is exactly matched to my own and it is a pleasure to say that we are a genuinely consultative agency with a focus on quality over quantity, always.
