Attracting and Retaining Technical Talent in the Legal Sector

At the end of September 2021, I had the pleasure of being a guest speaker at the Alternative Events “The Legal IT Conference”. Hosted at the Crown Plaza Hotel, Marlow – this 2-day event brought together leading industry experts across the legal sector to network, engage and share their expertise.

Following the event, I wanted to share some insight from discussions and engagements I’ve had post-event.  

Having presented on the subject of “How do IT Directors propel themselves upwards to the Board”  I’ve received a massive response from IT Directors across the Legal sector, curious to find out more and share their own challenges and thoughts on the need to transform, digitalise and win over the hearts and minds of the Partners to invest in IT properly. 


However, a lot of other trends and concerns have also emerged from these discussions, including: 

  • Average salary increases breaking the ceiling with counteroffers continuing to be a real issue for employers 
  • Direct advertising and talent attraction not delivering the talent needed, as workers remain apprehensive about moving until 2022 
  • Greater divisions across Professional Services around WFH vs Office working as CEOs and the boards force people back to the office
  • Cloud Strategies high on the agenda for 2022 – will Azure / GCP or AWS come out on top?


How we have been able to help?

As a result of these conversations and providing our expertise and advice on how to address these challenges, we have been retained exclusively on multiple engagements by CIO’s and Heads of HR - partnering with them to find the talent they need in a fiercely competitive candidate market. 

These new requirements include contract hiring across multiple change projects and workforce restructuring programmes for major UK Legal businesses looking to recruit roles ranging from IT Directors and Head of IT to Head of Change and other senior positions.
